3 Guilt-Free Edibles That Promote Healthy Skin

Posted on

There is a dilemma many people regularly face in the form of choice. Although you may want to live healthily and have beautiful, glowing skin, you probably don’t want to compromise taste. While it is crucial to alter your eating habits to have healthy, glowing skin, you don’t have to stray too far from your current palate. Here are three guilt-free edibles that promote healthy skin, and they taste great, too.

  1. Dark Chocolate

To many, dark chocolate is a delicacy they only eat every so often. For example, dark chocolate pairs perfectly with a quiet, romantic evening. But, did you know this delicious treat can be beneficial to your skin? Unlike most junk food and candy, dark chocolate, in moderation, has been known to improve skin health significantly.

The antioxidants in the chocolate hydrate your skin. And that means you can consume those precious dark chocolate bars a little more often with less guilt. Besides being a fantastic source of antioxidants, dark chocolate has been proven to improve your health in other ways, too. According to Healthline, a 100-gram bar of dark chocolate typically contains 11 grams of fiber and a bevy of other useful nutrients, like iron and potassium.

However, it’s best to apply moderation to dark chocolate, given the sugary nature of it. Some people attribute their energy boosts to dark chocolate. Although it contains enough caffeine for someone to feel a boost, it’s not nearly as much as a cup of coffee, for example.

  1. Almond Milk

Standard dairy milk can do a number on your skin. Milk is infamous for inflaming the skin, causing acne, and increasing the number of wrinkles on the face. If the health of your skin is a priority, it’s time to drop that regular whole milk you’re used to buying in favor of almond milk.

Almond milk is a popular, healthier substitute. So, the next time you find yourself pouring a bowl of cereal, be sure to opt for the almond milk, instead.

  1. Green Tea

Nutrition scientist, Kris Gunnars claims green tea to be the healthiest beverage in the world, and for a good reason. The drink is exceptionally nutritious and jam-packed with antioxidants. Green tea contains the anti-aging antioxidant, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

Recently, scientists have begun discovering the benefits associated with EGCG outside of smoother skin. A 2007 NIH study found that green tea and EGCG were helpful in improving both cardiovascular and metabolic health, as well as having “anti-cancer effects.”

These three edibles can help you improve your skin without the associated guilt. Enjoy them in moderation, and soon, you’ll see the results. You don’t have to have dull, lifeless skin or eat things you don’t like. These three things are delicious and healthy, too.
