4 Fun Ways to Get Kids Involved in the Kitchen
Cooking skills are important for everyone to have, and there’s no reason why you can’t start your kids off early. Various activities are available in the kitchen, so we have a few ways to get them involved so they can start to learn how to cook.
Get your kid involved with what you’re going to be making on a daily basis. Ask them what they want to eat or sit them down with a cookbook (one with photos if your child can’t read yet). When they’re responsible for choosing some of the meals, they’re less likely to turn their nose up at what you serve, too.
Vegetables need prepping and kids of all ages can help. Even if they’re too young to use a knife, you can have them shuck corn, peel potatoes, or snap the ends off of green beans.
Meatballs are a whole lot of fun to make from scratch. Let kids roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty. You don’t have to worry about them in front of the heat, either. Give them the bowl of ground beef with the mix-ins and show them what size to roll the meatballs.
As your kid gets a little more sufficient in the kitchen, it’s time to put them in front of the stove. Pancake flipping is a great place to start because they use a spatula. Once they master pancake flipping, omelets, chicken, and other items will be a piece of cake, too.
Any time you can get your kids involved in kitchen activities, do it. As they get older, it will make it easier to show them how to cook. One day, they’ll thank you when they can whip up a meal on their own without depending on the microwave or a bag of frozen food.
